1 Warnings and safety precautions

em CAUTION
Make sure you read and understand the following warnings and safety precautions. Not following the safety precautions can lead to damage of the device, reagent contamination and in worst cases to personal injuries.

  • Observe the ambient conditions mentioned in the Technical data.
  • Do not place any objects on top of the Kilobaser.
  • Do not move the Kilobaser when in operation.
  • Do not expose the Kilobaser to corroding influences.
  • Do not expose the Kilobaser to or clean it with chemicals and solvents, except where stated otherwise.
  • Please note that crystalline rests can be formed on the rubber nubs, onto which the chip is placed. This is normal and not hazardous.
  • Please note that there can be small amounts of liquid reagent remnants left under the chip when the synthesis is finished and the lid is opened. Wear protective gloves when touching the used chip.
  • Please note that when taking the cartridge out of the Kilobaser, the septa on the reagent bottles are pierced and thus not completely sealed anymore. In some cases, small amounts of liquid reagents can appear on the septa. Wear protective gloves when handling a used cartridge! Keep a used cartridge upright until disposing of it.
  • Although Kilobaser's liquid handling system is designed to eliminate user exposure to hazardous reagents, the cartridge still contains dangerous chemicals. By accident or severe mishandling, reagents can be released in larger amounts. In case of emergency, immediately ventilate and clear the area and consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and/or customer support for further instructions!
  • Please note that an unpleasant smell may emanate from the exhaust gas outlet during the last steps of the synthesis. The released gases are mono-methylamine (KB2) and acetonitrile (KB1). The total amount of the gases is approximately 20 mg, which is far below the short-term exposure limit values for these substances (for more information, please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet, Section 8, of the respective reagent). Still, place the Kilobaser in a well-ventilated area.
  • After synthesis, the heating block may still be hot, however not hotter than 65°C (150°F). Please be careful when removing the vial that contains the dried synthesized oligo.
  • Even though the Kilobaser can be considered a safe device and has integrated safety mechanisms to prevent damage and injuries, please take extra care during steps when the motors are moving!
  • Keep in mind the weight of the Kilobaser device (21 kg; 46 lbs) - extra care should be taken when lifting and carrying. If necessary, ask a colleague for help.
  • Do not drop the Kilobaser device.
  • If damage is detected, stop using the Kilobaser immediately and contact the customer support.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the Kilobaser yourself, unless explicitly instructed otherwise. Repairs can only be performed by qualified personnel or the manufacturer.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

ONLY ORIGINAL PARTS AND CONSUMABLES FROM THE MANUFACTURER MUST BE USED. USING THIRD PARTY OR NON-ORIGINAL CONSUMABLES MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE MACHINE AND VOID WARRANTY!
